Martin
Curti is the host and producer of NewWorldBuzz,
the pioneering online world music station
featuring selected tracks from the top world
music albums, plus selections from new releases
and interviews with today's and tomorrow's
performers. He has spent the last 20 years
exploring and exposing new music.
On NWB,
Martin hosts hours of international music
selections from around the globe. Listeners
are transported to the exotic ends of the
earth without ever having to leave their
homes. The purpose of the website is to,
according to Curti, "break down musical
barriers and to enable people throughout
the world to learn about each other through
music".
Martin
Curti was born in Pittsburgh, PA to an American
father and a Spanish mother. His father
is a veteran of radio broadcasting, and
so music has always been an important part
of Martin's life. As a child, he grew up
listening to everything from Frank Sinatra
to Elvis Presley, Miles Davis to Otis Redding,
Stan Kenton to the Beatles, and many more.
With such an eclectic selection of music
playing in the Curti household, Martin developed
an early appreciation for all music genres.
His Spanish-born mother also instilled in
her son a love of world cultures, and world
travel. Martin has traveled to his mother's
native country on several occasions, one
being to cover the gypsy flamenco scene
and interview the Spanish group Ecos del
Rocio.
With
a father in radio and a mother from a foreign
country, and three brothers who are musicians,
it seems almost like fate that Martin would,
in 1993, start the world music series, NewWorldBuzz.
Throughout NWB's twenty-year run, Martin
has interviewed many of world music's biggest
names, as well as its most up-and-coming
stars. Artists like Peter Gabriel, Simon
Shaheen, Baaba Maal, the Blind Boys of Alabama,
Omara Portuondo, Hakim, Steve Roach, Oliver
Mtukudzi, Thomas Mapfumo, Coco Mbassi, Sierra
Leone's Refugee All Stars, Habib Koité,
Krishna Das, David Hudson, Azam Ali, Issa
Bagayogo, Daby Touré, Anoushka Shankar
and many others have been featured guests
on NewWorldBuzz.
In addition
to the exciting events mentioned above,
Martin Curti has also been featured in numerous
world music trade publications. NewWorldBuzz
has been tremendously successful over the
last 20 years. The station is currently
listened to in over 70 countries worldwide,
and is recognized as a major world music
outlet by the recording industry.
