Meets
Dr.
Didg
Trick-or-treat? New World Buzz meets up with
Dr. Didg over Halloween week during his North American tour.
Dr.
Didg is one-of-a-kind, with a special brew combining multi-layered,
hypnotic electronics with primitive sounds of the didgeridoo. Endless
world-wide touring has created exceptional word-of-mouth within
the Jam Band and festival circuits, making Dr. Didg the ultimate
groove for ravers and hippies alike.
Dr.
Didg, aka Graham Wiggins, picked up the didgeridoo while at Boston
University, where he first studied the acoustics of the instrument.
Traveling to England, he earned a Ph.D. in physics from Oxford,
and also earned the nickname "Dr. Didg" after further
experimentation with the didgeridoo in the physics lab. A shortage
of funds drove Wiggins to busking in the streets, eventually teaming
up to form the Billlboard chart-topping band, Outback.
Today,
Dr. Didg is joined by Mark Revell (guitar) and Dave Motion (guitar,
bass). They create an irresistible, hypnotic dance groove with a
technique they call "live sampling", in which Wiggins
samples himself while he plays, building up layers upon layers of
rhythmic loops. The whole eclectic mix is like nothing heard before
and has blown the minds of concert-goers around the world.
